About the styles and inks we use
DISCHARGE
It is a process by which the original color of the t-shirt is removed, leaving behind the natural color of the material (usually shades of gray, but it differs depending on the brand and color) – in the form of the desired design. The result is a print with a vintage, old look. Although it can be done on other textile materials, the discharge process works best on 100% cotton.
It is also important to know that the material on which the drawing remains after the process regains its softness, without feeling anything to the touch. Likewise, it does not work the same way on any type of item, from any brand or having any color.
WATER BASED
Screen printing on textiles with water-based inks is similar to the “discharge” process. here using only water-based ink. This is mainly used for light colored textiles – white, cream, blue, etc. The water-based ink merges with the material, therefore, applied to dark materials, the water-based ink will have a faded, vintage look. For example, if white water-based ink is applied to a black t-shirt, the print will have a shade of gray at the end because the ink merging with the t-shirt fails to cover the color of the t-shirt.
The advantage of this type of ink is that it becomes one with the material, the result being a print that: does not feel to the touch, has vivid colors and a lifespan equivalent to that of a T-shirt.
To be sure that you choose textile articles and the right printing method for your project, our team is here to help you.
DISCHARGE WITH WATER BASED INK
Through this process, dark colored textiles can be printed with water-based inks. The result is spectacular, unmatched by any other printing method. It is a process that uses water-based inks to which additives are added. They remove the original color of the t-shirt so that the ink can be fixed in the material, the result being a spectacular one. Although it can be done on other textile materials, the “discharge” process works best on 100% cotton.
On materials that have a mixture of cotton and polyester or triblend, (a mixture of 3 types of material) the print will have a vintage look, because the “discharge” process only removes the color from the cotton and not the polyester. But it depends on the color of the polyester in the composition of the material, in general it can be gray or white. When the polyester in the composition is white, the print will have natural and vibrant colors and when the polyester in the composition is gray, the print will have a vintage look. Everything depends on how you want the final result to look, that’s why communication with us is very important. We will guide you in choosing the right material and printing method for your project.
In this way, prints can be made in strong colors that feel the same as those based on water on light materials – when touched, the ink seems to have become one with the material, without being able to be felt on the surface at all.
It does not work the same on any item, from any brand or on any color. That’s why contact us and our team will advise you in choosing the right one for your project.
PLASTISOL
These inks are thicker, harder and more opaque. Unlike those based on water, plastisols remain, for the most part, on the surface of the material. They can be used on textile materials of any color and any consistency or combination of fibers, but they are most often used on dark colored ones. They are also used in most cases on duo-blend (50/50 – polyester/cotton) or tri-blend materials or on more complex clothing items such as jackets, etc.
The final result will always have a special, soft-rubbery appearance, vibrant and bright colors with great resistance over time. For more information on how to maintain articles printed with plastisol and much more, read the following article on our blog.
THAT’S NOT ALL…
With these types of inks we can print / personalize any textile material up to 6 colors, through various processes.
If you want to print complex designs, we can screen print IN CMYK SYSTEM (polychromy) – a technique by which the 4 ink colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) overlap and result in other colors. It is very important to know that a (small) part of the details will be lost. NOT ALL THE DETAILS YOU SEE ON THE MONITOR WILL ALSO EXIST IN THE PRINTED DESIGN.
The same will happen if you want HALFTONE prints (a small part of the details will disappear). When you look closely at the design, you will notice that it is re-designed from many, many points. The HALFTONEs are these points that vary in size, from which the design is composed. Again, it is recommended for photos and complex designs that contain complicated effects (shadows, watermarks, gradients, etc.).
Also, for those who care about the particularity and image of the Brand, we can print colors according to the PANTONE CODE , this involves mixing some colors and exact quantities of ink calculated with the help of the Pantone System, thus obtaining the exact shade of color / colors requested.
The variety of each of these gives us the opportunity to silkscreen/print SPECIAL EFFECTS , with:
- Sparkles or glitter
- Raised or raised layer
- Ink with flavors (ex.: chocolate flavor, etc.)
- Fluorescent or phosphorescent ink
- Photochromic effect (colors appear in the light)
- Thermochromic effect (colors appear with heat)
